Melt Festival ran from 1997, relocating to the Ferropolis former mining site near Grafenhainichen in 1999, where it built a reputation as one of Germany's most visually striking electronic and indie festivals staged among the site's preserved bucket-wheel excavators. Reporting from 2024 indicated that the July 2024 edition was announced as the festival's last, so its future status should be verified independently before any travel planning.

Melt Festival began in 1997 and moved to Ferropolis, the former lignite mining peninsula on Gremminer Lake near Grafenhainichen, in 1999, building its identity around the same five preserved bucket-wheel excavators that give the site its City of Iron name, machines that operated at the Golpa-Nord open-cast mine until the site's closure in 1991.
