Highfield Festival in Grosspoesna
Highfield Festival began in 1998 at the Hohenfelden Reservoir, growing from 10,000 to nearly 25,000 attendees before relocating in 2010 to Lake Stormthal near Grosspoesna, part of Leipzig's post-mining lake district. Now capped at 35,000 attendees over three days each August, it has established itself as the most important indie-rock festival in eastern Germany, set on the lakeside Magdeborn peninsula.
Highfield Festival began in 1998 at the Hohenfelden Reservoir south of Erfurt, taking its name directly from that location — Hohenfelden translating roughly as 'high field' — and ran there for over a decade while growing steadily from an initial ten thousand attendees to nearly twenty-five thousand by 2006, selling out for the first time in 2008.
