Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Multiple cities
Founded in 1986 by pianist Justus Frantz, with Leonard Bernstein founding an Orchestra Academy the following year, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival stages classical music across the entire state rather than concentrating in one city. Around 140 events run each summer at more than 40 venues, including castles, manors, old barns, brick-Gothic churches and even shipyards, across Lubeck, Kiel, Flensburg and smaller towns, with the festival now running for decades.
Concert pianist and conductor Justus Frantz founded the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in 1986, and its first edition drew an extraordinary roster of world-class performers, including Leonard Bernstein, Yehudi Menuhin, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Svjatoslav Richter and Mstislav Rostropovich, a level of star power unusual for a brand-new regional festival.
