The story

Rock im Park in Nuremberg

Rock im Park, founded in 1993, is the southern twin of Rock am Ring, sharing an almost identical three-day lineup each June, with headline acts alternating between Nuremberg and the Nurburgring. Staged at the Zeppelinfeld, the former Nazi party rally grounds beside the Dutzendteich lake, the festival draws more than 75,000 attendees, with the combined Rock im Park and Rock am Ring total exceeding 150,000 in strong years.

Rock im Park began in 1993 with a first edition staged in Vienna before the festival settled permanently in Nuremberg, where it eventually found its current home at the Zeppelinfeld, the vast former Nazi party rally grounds, after an earlier stint at the Frankenstadion stadium.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Staging a major contemporary rock and metal festival at the Zeppelinfeld, ground built specifically for Nazi-era mass political rallies, gives Rock im Park a uniquely loaded historical setting openly acknowledged by organisers and attendees rather than a neutral or purpose-built festival field

02

The mystery stays covered

Its twin-festival structure with Rock am Ring, sharing an almost identical lineup across the same weekend at sites hundreds of kilometres apart, is a distinctive format shared by very few festival pairs anywhere

03

The city starts moving

Combined attendance with its northern twin exceeding 150,000 in strong years places the pairing among the largest music festivals in the world
