SonneMondSterne in Saalburg-Ebersdorf
SonneMondSterne, or SMS, began in 1997 with around 2,500 attendees at the Bleilochtalsperre reservoir near Saalburg-Ebersdorf in Thuringia, growing to roughly 35,000 by its 2011 fifteenth edition and becoming one of Europe's largest open-air electronic dance music festivals. Held each second weekend of August directly on the reservoir's shores, it has booked acts including Massive Attack, David Guetta, Skrillex and Kraftwerk.
Its lake setting and scale make it one of eastern Germany's signature electronic music festivals.
