Homowo Festival in Accra/Ga communities

Homowo, meaning hooting at hunger in Ga, commemorates a historical famine survived during the Ga people's migration to present-day Accra, celebrated each August to September across Ga communities from Ga Mashie to Teshie and Tema. A pre-festival drumming ban gives way to feasting on kpokpoi, a meatless steamed cornmeal dish served with palm nut soup and fish.
