Akwambo Festival Agona in Agona
Agona Swedru's Akwambo festival opens the traditional area's ceremonial year each August with communal path-clearing along roads and farm tracks, followed by libation at ancestral shrines and a closing durbar of chiefs. It commemorates the 1730 migration from Efutuobir under Nana Gyan Kodwo that founded the town, and draws home relatives for reunions alongside the public parade.
Agona Swedru's Akwambo festival opens with an act of literal maintenance: Asafo company members fan out along the roads, gutters and bush paths leading to the town's farms, streams and shrines, clearing and weeding them by hand before any ceremony begins.
