Odwira Festival Akropong in Akropong
Akropong's Odwira, instituted in 1826 by Okuapehene Nana Addo Dankwa I after the Akuapem victory at Katamansu, is an annual state purification festival closing with a grand durbar of the whole Akuapem traditional area. Expect processions of chiefs in gold regalia and palanquins through the hillside town.
Odwira in Akropong began as a victory commemoration: Nana Addo Dankwa I, the nineteenth Okuapehene, instituted the festival in 1826 after Akuapem forces helped defeat an invading Asante army at the Battle of Katamansu near Dodowa.
