Awubia Festival in Awutu

Awubia Festival is the annual harvest celebration of the Awutu Traditional Area in Awutu Bereku, roughly 55 kilometres from Accra in Ghana's Central Region, held between August and September to mark the end of the farming season. Its name literally means the cutting and harvesting of grain, and oral tradition ties its origin directly to a king's founding-era planting at the Pooyoo Shrine.

Awubia takes its name from two words, awu for grain and bia for reaping, and the Awutu Traditional Area's own telling of its origin puts an actual harvest inside the founding legend rather than treating it as later symbolism.
