Adekyem Festival in Bechem
Adekyem Festival gathers Bechem, in Ghana's Ahafo Region, around a grand durbar honoring Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II, drawing on the town's history as a place where war booty was once shared. Held each November or December, it now doubles as a homecoming and development forum, pairing traditional drumming and dance with health screenings and youth programs.
Bechem's Adekyem Festival takes its name from an Akan phrase for a place where goods are shared out, a reference to the town's historical role as the site where booty captured during Asante military campaigns was divided among warriors and chiefs.
