La Homowo in La
La Homowo continues each year despite a long-running, court-tested dispute over the La stool, organised instead by clan and family heads who pour libation to named ancestral deities before sprinkling white kpokpoi mixed with palm-nut soup. The grand durbar draws the Ga Mantse and chiefs from neighbouring towns, and the feast closes with the Kpashimo street dance, as also happens at Tema and Teshie.
La Homowo has weathered a decades-long chieftaincy dispute that repeatedly reached the law courts, with opponents arguing at various points that the festival could not properly be held without a substantive La Mantse in place; the courts have consistently rejected these challenges, and the festival has continued to be organised by clan heads, family heads and the wider La Traditional Council regardless of the stool's status.
