Kobine Festival in Lawra

Kobine is the Dagaaba harvest festival of Lawra, in Ghana's Upper West Region, held each September or October once the season's crops are in. Families return from across Ghana and abroad for four days that move from quiet reunions to a durbar of chiefs, a costumed procession of hunters and elephants, and dancing driven by gourd drums and clay-pot percussion unique to the tradition.

Dagaaba men and women who have settled in Accra, Kumasi, or abroad plan their annual trip home around the Kobine Festival, held each September or October by the chiefs and people of the Lawra Traditional Area in Ghana's Upper West Region.
