Fao Festival in Navrongo

Fao is the Kasena and Nankani peoples' harvest thanksgiving festival, centered on Navrongo in Ghana's Upper East Region, honoring ancestors and the Great Spirit for a good farming season. The durbar features distinctive cultural dances, including the war dance called linlaara in the Kassem language, alongside performances from neighboring Sissala communities, though its public celebration has lapsed and returned more than once in recent years.

Fao Festival returned to Navrongo's public calendar after nearly a decade without a full celebration, a gap that local organizers have since worked to close by restoring the festival's traditional program in the Kassena-Nankana Traditional Area of Ghana's Upper East Region.
