Mmoaninko Festival in Ofinso
Offinso's traditional council marks the founding decision of its own territory, when Nana Wiafe Akenten I chose land instead of jewelry as a war reward from Asantehene Osei Tutu I. Celebrated once every four years with a chiefs' durbar, drumming and musket volleys, it is one of the rarer Akan festival cycles in the Ashanti Region.
Offinso's Mmoaninko festival marks a specific land transaction rather than a harvest or a battle: it commemorates the choice made by Nana Wiafe Akenten I, who, offered a reward by Asantehene Nana Osei Tutu I after fighting alongside Asante forces against the Dormaa people of the former Brong Ahafo region, asked for a tract of land instead of gold or jewelry.
