Ngmayem Festival Shai in Shai Osudoku

The Shai Traditional Council's Ngmayem, or Millet Festival, commemorates the Great Harvest of 1892 that ended a seven-year drought, and today runs as a month-long circuit through Manya Jorpanya, Dodowa, Ayikuma and Kordiabe in the Shai-Osudoku District, combining harvest thanksgiving with a unity homecoming for Shai people now scattered across Ghana.

The Shai Traditional Council's Ngmayem Festival, often called the Millet Festival, traces its origin to what oral history calls the Great Harvest of 1892, a bumper millet crop that followed seven years of devastating drought across Shai territory.
