Apoo Festival Techiman in Techiman
Apoo Festival lets Techiman residents ritually air grievances, including toward the chief, through satire, proverbs and pointed songs during a week-long procession each spring. Rooted in Bono Kingdom history, it doubles as a sanctioned period for settling family feuds and resetting community relationships for the year ahead.
Apoo takes its name from the root word po, meaning to reject or cast out, and the festival is built around a deliberate, sanctioned airing of grievances rather than a purely celebratory display.
