Effutu Afahye, widely known as the Aboakyer Festival, is celebrated by the Effutu people of Winneba in Ghana's Central Region on the first Saturday of May. It commemorates the Effutu ancestors' migration from the ancient Western Sudan Empire to the Gulf of Guinea coast. The festival's defining ritual is a bare-handed hunt for a live bushbuck, contested between two rival Asafo companies, Dentsefo and Tuafo, whose catch is presented to the paramount chiefs at a closing durbar.
