The story

Traces of Humanity Gibraltar Exhibition in Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery

A touring exhibition closing its run at the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery after stops in Margate and London, bringing together 35 artists and more than 65 works inspired by the Gorham's Cave Complex, Gibraltar's UNESCO-listed Neanderthal site, with free admission and an accompanying month-long talks programme.

Traces of Humanity reached Gibraltar as the third and final stop of an exhibition that had already toured Margate and London, closing its international run at the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery rather than opening there.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

This is the only leg of the three-city Traces of Humanity tour staged in Gibraltar itself, on the Rock where the Gorham's Cave Complex that inspired it actually sits, rather than in a city with no direct connection to the site

02

The mystery stays covered

It pairs 35 artists and over 65 works spanning painting, printmaking, sculpture, video and installation with talks from Professors Clive and Geraldine Finlayson, whose fieldwork at Gorham's Cave underpins much of the public understanding of Neanderthal life there, a direct link between the art on the walls and the active excavation a short distance away
