Yakinthia Festival in Anogeia/Mount Psiloritis
A July mountain festival on the slopes of Psiloritis above Anogeia, Crete, staged at a stone theatre beside a chapel shaped like a traditional shepherd's mitato hut, bringing Cretan music and folk tradition into dialogue with other Mediterranean cultures through concerts, speeches and dance across two or three days.
A stone theatre built beside a chapel shaped like a traditional Cretan mitato, the circular dry-stone shepherd's hut still used across the island's high pastures, gives the Yakinthia Festival a setting unlike almost any other performance venue in Greece.
