Rhodes International Marathon in Rhodes
A fast, flat marathon along the northern coastline of Rhodes, held since 2014 and designed with input from Greek-American ultrarunner George Zaras, running two half-marathon laps from Eleftherias Square past the island's medieval walls and UNESCO-listed Old Town, with sweeping Aegean Sea views for much of the course.
Rhodes International Marathon grew out of an idea championed by George Zaras, a Greek-American expatriate originally from Rhodes, who worked with Marietta Papavassiliou, president of the event's organizing committee, and American ultrarunner and author Wayne Kurtz to design a course that has since become a recognized benchmark within the international distance-running community.
