The story

Rhodes Medieval Festival in Rhodes

A spring reenactment festival inside Rhodes's UNESCO-listed Old Town, organized since 2005 by the non-profit Medieval Rose, staging jousting, fencing, archery, parades and siege reenactments tied to the Knights Hospitaller's rule of the island from 1309 to 1523, plus a puzzle-based Chase of the Dragon competition.

In 1309, under Grand Master Foulques de Villaret, the Knights Hospitaller took control of Rhodes and held the island until 1523, building the fortified old town that later became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Unlike reenactment festivals staged in reconstructed or purpose-built settings, this event unfolds inside the genuine fortifications and stone streets the Knights Hospitaller actually built and defended between 1309 and 1523, now a living, inhabited UNESCO World Heritage Site rather than a preserved ruin

02

The mystery stays covered

The Chase of the Dragon, a team puzzle competition tied to the specific 14th-century legend of knight Dieudonné de Gozon, gives visitors an interactive role rather than pure spectatorship, a format distinct from festivals built solely around watching staged combat
