St Cuthbert's Mission, an Amerindian village on the Mahaica River near Georgetown, holds its main Heritage Month celebration each year on the last Saturday of September, opening at the village Benab with dance, song and cassava bread demonstrations. An added evening program, Under the Moonlight, shares traditional folklore after dark, and the day draws hundreds of visitors given the village's easy reach from the capital.
St Cuthbert's Mission sits on the Mahaica River in Region Four, close enough to Georgetown for a day trip yet still an Amerindian village in its own right, one widely described within Guyana as a kind of cultural capital for the country's Indigenous peoples.
