Aquin Culture Festival in Aquin
Aquin, whose name derives from the Taino Yaquimo and whose coastline was visited by Columbus's crew in 1494, marks its patronal feast for Saint Thomas Aquinas on June 27 and separately hosts Destination Aquin, an international festival of traditional music and dance organized since 2008 that draws more than a hundred artists from Europe, the Caribbean and North America each spring.
Aquin, a coastal town on Haiti's Tiburon Peninsula in the South department, traces its name to Yaquimo, the Taino name for the area that Christopher Columbus is said to have anchored near in 1494 and that Alonso de Ojeda and Amerigo Vespucci visited on September 5, 1499.
