Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races in Victoria Harbour / Tsim Sha Tsui
Founded in 1976 from a casual conversation between a tourism executive and a fishermen's association leader, the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races grew from ten teams in Shau Kei Wan into a major international competition now held on Victoria Harbour off Tsim Sha Tsui. Sponsored today by Sun Life, it draws well over 200 teams from more than a dozen jurisdictions across two race days each summer.
A casual 1975 conversation between a Hong Kong tourism executive and the chairman of a local fishermen's association led, the following year, to ten teams racing dragon boats in the Shau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter, an event that grew into the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, now held along Victoria Harbour off Tsim Sha Tsui.
