The story

Budapest100 in Budapest

Budapest100 opens private and institutional buildings across the city for one free weekend each year, born from a single 2011 building centenary and now spotlighting rolling themes like specific streets, districts, or architectural movements. Many participating residents research their own building's history specifically for the occasion, giving tours a genuinely personal quality.

The Goldberger House, home to the Blinken OSA Archivum, turned a hundred years old in 2011, and that single building anniversary sparked an idea from OSA Archivum and the Contemporary Architecture Centre, known as KEK: gather every Budapest building turning a hundred that year and celebrate them together over one weekend.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival's format shifted after its early years from celebrating buildings turning exactly one hundred to thematic explorations of streets, districts, and architectural movements, and it runs almost entirely through volunteer residents and local historians opening their own buildings

02

The mystery stays covered

Many participants research their own building's specific history just for the occasion, giving tours a personal, first-hand quality that professional museum docents rarely replicate in a standard heritage tour, since residents are sharing stories about spaces they actually live in rather than reciting rehearsed institutional scripts
