MITEM International Theatre Meeting in Budapest
Founded in 2014 by National Theatre director Attila Vidnyanszky and named for playwright Imre Madach, MITEM brings international theatre companies to Budapest each spring, having hosted around 170 performances from 38 countries and once the Theatre Olympics itself. Post-performance conversations with visiting international companies are regularly scheduled alongside the mainstage productions.
Attila Vidnyanszky, appointed Director General of Hungary's National Theatre in 2013, launched MITEM the following spring, naming the festival after playwright Imre Madach and building it into the National Theatre's flagship international showcase.
