Hortobagy Bridge Fair in Hortobagy

Beside Hortobagy's historic Nine-Arch Bridge, a livestock fair dating to 1825 was revived in 1960 as a folk-craft market, now running each August 20 with vendors selling gingerbread, leatherwork, pottery, and carved knives alongside morning folk music. Several craft vendors have sold at the same fair for multiple generations of the same family.

A horse fair began at the site of Hortobagy's Nine-Arch Bridge in 1825, with a cattle fair added in 1846, tied to Debrecen's historic market rights over the surrounding puszta, and the tradition ran as a genuine livestock market for over a century before declining and stopping around the Second World War as animal husbandry practices changed and legal restrictions on animal trading took hold.
