Hortobagy Equestrian Days in Hortobagy
Held each June at the Mata Stud, documented since 1671, Hortobagy Equestrian Days showcase the puszta's csikos horseman tradition through a National Horseman Championship, carriage driving, show jumping, and fiery evening horse shows across more than 55 years of continuous operation. Many competing riders today learned their skills from relatives who performed at the same stud farm decades earlier.
The Mata Stud, first documented in a seventeenth-century archive from 1671 and historically linked to the free royal town of Debrecen, provides the setting each June for Hortobagy Equestrian Days, one of the largest and best-known equestrian events in Hungary.
