Night of Museums Hungary in Multiple cities
Hungary's nationwide Night of Museums runs each year around the summer solstice, with over four hundred fifty institutions across multiple cities opening late for roughly two thousand special programs in a single coordinated night. Many families treat it as an annual tradition, picking a different neighborhood of participating museums to explore each year.
Berlin originated the long night of museums concept in 1997, and Hungary joined the growing European movement in 2002, initially without a fixed seasonal anchor before organizers shifted the date the following year to coincide with St Ivan's Night, the midsummer solstice period around June 20 to 24, to take advantage of long daylight hours and the warm-weather crowds already out celebrating.
