Pannonhalma Lavender Festival in Pannonhalma
At Pannonhalma Archabbey, a UNESCO World Heritage monastery cultivating lavender since the 1940s, an annual mid-to-late June festival launched in 2011 sells lavender perfume, honey, wine, and gifts alongside herbalism workshops and concerts amid the working fields. The exact festival date shifts slightly from year to year depending on when the fields reach peak bloom.
Monks at the Pannonhalma Archabbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Hungary's oldest and most significant monasteries, began cultivating lavender in the abbey's medicinal herb garden in the 1940s, starting on roughly half a hectare and expanding steadily over the following decades into what the abbey's own agricultural economy now describes as Hungary's largest lavender producer.
