The story

THEALTER Festival in Szeged

Founded in 1991 by the MASZK Association, THEALTER is Hungary's oldest international theatre festival, bringing roughly sixty events across eleven Szeged venues over nine days, with world and Hungarian premieres from groups spanning over thirty countries. Many productions that later tour internationally had their Hungarian premiere on a THEALTER stage first.

MASZK Association, a performing arts nonprofit, founded both itself and THEALTER in 1991, building what has since become recognized as the oldest international theatre festival in Hungary and a leading forum for independent and innovative Hungarian theatre.
