The story

Balaton Sound in Zamardi

Launched in 2007 by Sziget Cultural Management, Balaton Sound is one of Europe's largest open-air electronic music festivals, staged directly on Zamardi's Lake Balaton beach with swimming access integrated into the five-day festival grounds each July. Camping directly behind the beach means many attendees never leave the festival footprint for the entire run.

Sziget Cultural Management, the company founded in 1993 that also runs Budapest's Sziget Festival, launched Balaton Sound on the Zamardi beach in July 2007, building one of Europe's largest open-air electronic and dance music festivals directly on Lake Balaton's southern shore.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival is built directly onto Zamardi's Lake Balaton beach, integrating swimming and lake access into the festival grounds themselves, run by the same organizer, Sziget Cultural Management, behind Budapest's much larger Sziget Festival

02

The mystery stays covered

On-site camping directly behind the beach means many attendees never need to leave the festival footprint for the full five-day run, a self-contained format distinct from festivals requiring travel between accommodation and grounds, since the same sandy stretch functions as sleeping quarters, dance floor, and swimming spot in a single footprint
