Braedslan Music Festival in Borgarfjordur Eystri

Founded in 2005 to mark painter Johannes Kjarval's centenary, Braedslan is an annual concert held the last weekend of July inside a disused herring-processing factory in the remote village of Borgarfjordur Eystri. Singer Emiliana Torrini headlined the first show. Attendance is capped at around 900 tickets, and the festival won Iceland's Eyrarros award for rural cultural achievement in 2010.

Braedslan began in 2005 when Borgarfjordur Eystri residents decided to mark the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Icelandic painter Johannes Kjarval, who spent part of his youth in the village, by organizing a concert rather than a formal art commemoration.
