Reykjavik International Games in Reykjavík
The Reykjavik International Games, running every January or February since 2007, bring elite competitors in more than 20 sports to Reykjavik's Laugardalur sports district. The athletics leg, held at Laugardalsholl's indoor banked track, is part of the World Athletics Challenger tour, drawing international competitors for a midwinter multi-sport event unusual in a country known mostly for summer festivals.
The Reykjavik International Games began in 2007 as a combined athletics and swimming competition and has run every winter since, now covering more than 20 individual sports across roughly a week in late January or early February.
