Rongali Bihu Guwahati in Guwahati
Guwahati's version of Assam's Bohag Bihu combines household ritual with citywide performance: Goru Bihu cattle-bathing, Manuh Bihu blessings and gamosa exchange, door-to-door Husori singing, and open-air stage shows in neighborhoods like Latasil and Chandmari where Bihu dance competitions set to dhol, pepa and gogona draw the state's best performers into the capital for a week of Assamese New Year celebration.
The Latasil Bihu Sanmilani in Guwahati was among the first associations in Assam to move Bihu off village fields and onto a public stage, a change dating to the early 1950s that helped turn Rongali Bihu into the city-wide event Guwahati now hosts every year.
