Krakatau Festival in Bandar Lampung/South Lampung
Launched in 1990 by Lampung's provincial government, Krakatau Festival commemorates the catastrophic 1883 Krakatau eruption while promoting broader Lampung culture. Held in the August to September window, it features cultural performances, boat and kite competitions, a Tapis textile fashion show, and a Lampung Culture Carnival parade, plus an optional boat excursion to the still-active Anak Krakatau volcano.
Lampung province's government launched Krakatau Festival in 1990, built around the historic memory of Krakatau's catastrophic 1883 eruption, one of the deadliest volcanic events in recorded history, combined with broader Lampung cultural and tourism promotion.
