Napak Sire Cultural Festival in Belitung
The first edition of a Belitung Malay heritage festival at Tanjung Pendam Beach, centered on reviving the menyirih betel-chewing custom through a mass communal chewing ritual and welcome dance, organized by Belitung Regency government with the local Malay traditional institution.
The first-ever edition of this Belitung festival took place in May at Tanjung Pendam Beach, built around reviving a local betel-nut chewing custom known as menyirih or nyire that predates the festival itself by generations even though the event honoring it is entirely new.
