Karapan Sapi Madura in Madura
Karapan Sapi races pairs of bulls yoked to a wooden sled, or kaleles, across Madura's dry-season circuits, with plural legendary origins tracing to a thirteenth-century prince or to Islamic missionaries, later formalized under Dutch colonial promotion. A tiered competition, from novice heats to district and residency levels, culminates each October in the Piala Presiden, or Presidential Cup, at Pamekasan.
