Bromo Exotica Festival in Mount Bromo/Tengger
A June arts festival staged on Mount Bromo's volcanic Sea of Sand dunes, featuring Tenggerese Tipung Tengger music, Gunung Sari dance, and Kidung Tengger opera, run separately from but alongside the Hindu Yadnya Kasada ceremony in the same Tengger highlands landscape, with guest performers from other Indonesian regions occasionally joining the core lineup of Tenggerese musicians and dancers.
The volcanic sand dunes locals call the Sea of Sand, spread across the Tengger highlands surrounding Mount Bromo, become an open-air stage each June for this arts festival, commonly known in Indonesian as Eksotika Bromo and organized separately from, though staged alongside, the Tenggerese Hindu religious ceremony Yadnya Kasada that draws devotees to the same landscape.
