A multi-day town-wide water fight in Selatpanjang timed to Chinese Lunar New Year, rooted in the local Cian Cui tradition and formalized as an official festival by the Meranti Islands regency government since 2013. In the days before Chinese Lunar New Year, the streets of Selatpanjang fill with pedicabs carrying riders who douse each other and passersby with buckets and water-filled balloons in a tradition locals call Cian Cui.
