Solo International Performing Arts

Solo International Performing Arts, or SIPA, launched in 2009 and runs three days each late August or September, free of charge, mixing traditional Javanese dance and gamelan with contemporary performance. Framed explicitly as cultural diplomacy, it invites international troupes from countries including Australia, Japan, and Taiwan, though its venue has shifted repeatedly across editions.

Solo International Performing Arts, known by its acronym SIPA, launched in 2009 and has run annually since, but its venue history reads almost like a map of Solo's cultural infrastructure: from Pamedan Pura Mangkunegaran in its early years, to Benteng Vastenburg for the bulk of the 2010s, briefly to Taman Budaya Jawa Tengah and Bengawan Solo Park during pandemic-era disruption, and back again as circumstances allowed.
