Baghdad International Theater Festival in Baghdad
A juried international theater festival based at Baghdad's National Theater, first held in 2013 to signal the capital's return to the international arts circuit after years of isolation. Editions have hosted troupes from Egypt, Tunisia, Germany, Italy, Iran, and Spain, with a jury prize awarded each cycle and the event presided over by Iraqi Artists Syndicate head Jabbar Joudi.
The first Baghdad International Theater Festival opened in 2013 at the city's newly renovated National Theater, an attempt by Iraqi cultural officials to signal that the capital's isolation from the international arts circuit was ending.
