West Cork Chamber Music Festival in Bantry
A ten-day late-June into early-July chamber music festival at Bantry House and St Brendan's Church, Bantry, founded in 1995 by Francis Humphrys, who first hosted informal concerts on the Sheep's Head peninsula, run by West Cork Music alongside the separately timed and genred Masters of Tradition festival at the same venue.
Francis Humphrys, an Oxford and London School of Economics-educated former theatre worker who moved to farm in West Cork in the 1970s, founded this festival in 1995 after informally hosting chamber music performances on the Sheep's Head peninsula, according to festival lore even for an audience as modest as his own cows, before moving the concerts into the grander setting of Bantry House itself.
