Ashdodance Festival in Ashdod
Ashdodance turns the port city of Ashdod into an open-air dance stage each summer, mixing free public performances, mass participation routines and ticketed shows across plazas, the boardwalk and local theaters. Started after choreographer Avi Levy proposed it to the municipality, the festival now draws Israeli and international companies performing folk, contemporary and popular styles.
Choreographer Avi Levy spent years pitching Ashdod's municipal government on the idea of a citywide dance festival before officials agreed to back it, and the event that grew out of those meetings has since become one of the largest annual dance gatherings on Israel's Mediterranean coast.
