Infiorata di Noto in Noto
Started in 1980 by local artists working with flower designers from Genzano di Roma, Noto's Infiorata covers Via Nicolaci, the Baroque street leading to Palazzo Nicolaci's carved balconies, in a continuous flower-petal carpet. Held the third weekend of May, each edition follows a newly chosen theme using hundreds of thousands of flowers grown around Sicily's Val di Noto.
Noto's Infiorata began on 10 May 1980, when local organizers, working with flower artists from Genzano di Roma who had generations of experience laying floral designs, staged the first edition along Via Nicolaci, the steeply sloped Baroque street that climbs toward Palazzo Nicolaci and its balconies carved with grotesque figures.
