Jamaica Festival Song Competition in Kingston
Running since 1966, the JCDC's Jamaica Festival Song Competition is the country's longest continuously staged original-song contest, producing enduring hits like Toots and the Maytals' Bam Bam and Eric Donaldson's This Is the Land of My Birth. A televised results show crowns the winner each year around Independence season, with a cash grand prize for the top original composition.
The Jamaica Festival Song Competition began in 1966, making it, by the JCDC's own description, the longest continuously running original-song competition in the country and one of the oldest of its kind in the Caribbean.
