Reggae Month in Kingston
A government-proclaimed February program, running since 2008, coordinated by a Reggae Month Secretariat alongside the JCDC, the Institute of Jamaica, and the Ministry of Culture. It opens around Dennis Brown's February 1 birthday and builds to Bob Marley's February 6 birthday, mixing free concerts, seminars, church services, and school programs across Kingston and beyond.
The Government of Jamaica proclaimed February as Reggae Month in 2008, anchoring the national program to the birth dates of two influential reggae figures five days apart: Dennis Brown, born February 1, and Bob Marley, born February 6, whose birthday functions as the month's centerpiece.
