The story

Ultra X Jordan in Wadi Rum

Ultra X Jordan, also called the Wadi Rum Ultra, is a five-day, roughly 220-kilometer multi-stage ultramarathon held each September or October across Wadi Rum's dramatic desert terrain, reaching its 10th anniversary edition. Unlike fully self-supported ultras, organizers transport competitors' gear between campsites and resupply water at regular checkpoints, while the route passes rocky canyons, sand dunes and historic sites throughout the landscape nicknamed the Valley of the Moon.

Ultra X Jordan, also known as the Wadi Rum Ultra, sends competitors across roughly 220 kilometers of desert terrain over five consecutive stages run between Monday and Friday, with each day's stage covering between 35 and 60 kilometers and starting anywhere from 4 a.m.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Ultra X Jordan's defining feature is its supported-but-challenging format: competitors carry only daily provisions while organizers handle gear transport and water resupply, making a genuinely demanding five-day, 220-kilometer desert ultramarathon accessible to competitors who might avoid a fully self-supported format elsewhere

02

The mystery stays covered

Its setting in Wadi Rum, filming location for Dune, Lawrence of Arabia and multiple Star Wars films among others, gives the race unusually strong visual identity that has become central to its appeal, drawing runners as much for the cinematic desert scenery as for the athletic challenge of the stages themselves
