The story

City Run Almaty in Almaty

A community 10K and 5K Nordic walking race through central Almaty, starting near the historic former House of Government and finishing on pedestrian Panfilov Boulevard. Organized by the Courage to be First foundation, it draws a few thousand casual and competitive runners including international participants each autumn.

Almaty closes off a stretch of its historic center once a year for a race that has nothing to do with chasing a marathon personal best and everything to do with community running culture.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

City Run is deliberately smaller and more inclusive than the Almaty Marathon, favoring a 10K and a 5K walking option over marathon distances, which makes it accessible to first-time racers and families rather than dedicated endurance athletes

02

The mystery stays covered

Its route through the historic government quarter and Panfilov Boulevard gives participants a compact tour of central Almaty's architecture in one outing

03

The city starts moving

Being organized by a corporate foundation rather than a sports federation also gives it a more community-driven, less commercial feel than bigger branded races
