The story

Astana Half Marathon in Astana

The Astana Half Marathon, held each June, is an AIMS-certified race starting at Independence Square and passing landmarks including the Nur Alem Sphere, Baiterek monument, and Botanical Garden. Alongside the 21.1 kilometer half marathon, it offers a 10 kilometer run, Nordic walking, and Ekiden relay, drawing several thousand participants from twenty or more countries on Astana's flat, fast boulevards.

Astana's flattest boulevards become a racecourse when the Astana Half Marathon takes over the city each June, organized by the Courage to be First corporate fund, the same organization behind the Almaty Marathon series, Tau Jarys, and Summer Relay.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Compared to the Almaty Half Marathon's mountain-backdrop spring course, the Astana Half Marathon trades scenery for speed: its flat, wide capital boulevards are specifically prized by competitive runners chasing personal-best times, a reputation the hillier Almaty courses cannot match

02

The mystery stays covered

It is organized by the same Courage to be First fund behind Tau Jarys and Summer Relay, giving it a shared format menu of half marathon, 10K, Nordic walking, and Ekiden relay categories

03

The city starts moving

Its early June date also places it in a different part of the calendar than the spring Almaty Half Marathon and autumn Almaty Marathon
